Hunda Oli is a coffee grown by smallholder farmers in the Uraga woreda of Guji, southern Ethiopia, and processed at the Hunda Oli washing station. The station is supplied by hundreds of local farmers who cultivate coffee on small plots near their homes, often alongside food crops. This area is part of the broader Guji zone, which has gained recognition in recent years for coffees that are both expressive and consistently clean. Farms supplying Hunda Oli sit at elevations of roughly 1,950 to 2,200 meters above sea level. Coffee is grown in fertile red soil and shaded by indigenous trees, with minimal intervention throughout the season. Farming here is largely traditional, relying on seasonal rainfall and manual labour rather than synthetic inputs. Because of the altitude and cool climate, cherries mature slowly, resulting in dense parchment and stable green coffee that holds up well through processing and export. During harvest, farmers deliver freshly picked cherries to the Hunda Oli washing station, where strict intake standards are applied. Depending on the lot, coffees are processed either as fully washed or natural. Washed lots are depulped shortly after delivery, fermented under controlled conditions, thoroughly washed, and then dried on raised beds. Naturals are dried whole cherry on raised beds, with frequent turning and sorting to maintain cleanliness and even moisture reduction. Drying times are extended due to the cool climate, which helps preserve clarity and fine aromatics.
