Kathima Factory is located in Manyata Sub-county within Embu County, the factory operates under the Thambana Farmers Cooperative Society, which supports a total membership of around 4,500 farmers. Of these, approximately 2,200 actively deliver cherry to Kathima, making it a significant and reliable supply point within the cooperative.
Farms are situated between 1,600 and 1,800 meters above sea level, where a tropical rainforest climate and nutrient-rich red volcanic soils provide ideal conditions for coffee cultivation. These factors contribute to the development of dense beans and well-structured cup profiles, often defined by clarity, brightness, and layered fruit characteristics.
Harvesting follows Kenya’s typical dual-season cycle, with early crop deliveries from May to July and a later harvest from October to December. Cherries are selectively handpicked at peak ripeness and delivered to the factory, where processing is carried out using the fully washed method. This approach is central to the clean, articulate profiles associated with Kenyan coffees.
